Structural Stabilisation in Glasgow

Graham + Sibbald were instructed to liaise with a Structural Engineer to assess a structurally damaged tenement building. Throughout this project communication was paramount across all interested parties and stakeholders to be able to reach a solution for stabilising the building on an interim basis.

APPROACH

Graham + Sibbald had to work with a variety of teams to successfully stabilise a tenement building. In order to stabilise the building tender documentation had to be prepared and remedial works specification undertaken.  This project required careful and systematic demolition to allow for internal stabilisation.

This was conducted to allow for the taking down of the rear façade and to protect the remaining internal elements with temporary sheeting.

KEY CHALLENGES

One of the key challenges within this project was working as a Design Team and with Demolition Contractor assistance around safe working within a partially collapsed structure.

RESULTS

With the successful liaison of teams the investigations, designs and remedial work was completed over the course of 3 years to stabilise the structure which negated the need for full demolition.

KEY MESSAGE

Graham + Sibbald successfully assisted in saving the tenement from being fully demolished. This wouldn’t have been successful without strong communication from all parties involved.

“Extensive teamworking from inception was required with various Stakeholders to carefully assess repair options and transmit the options to full workable and safe design solutions as well as thereafter successfully delivering the remedial repair works on time and within budget .” Neil MacFarlane, Partner
