Based in Stranraer, the company was founded in 1962 and has been family-run across three generations. Having come through the recent health crisis in excellent shape, the family have considered many different futures for McMillan Hotels and its dedicated staff and have now made the decision to find new, experienced hoteliers with ambitious plans for the future of the group.
The McMillan portfolio includes North West Castle in Stranraer, Cally Palace Hotel & Golf Course in Gatehouse of Fleet and Fernhill Hotel in Portpatrick. Offering something for everyone – a great Scottish welcome, great food using the best Scottish produce, golf, curling competitions, meeting and conference spaces, as well as boasting idyllic wedding locations.
With the staycation market expected to continue to grow, the hotels offer an excellent opportunity for purchase with strong trading levels both pre and post pandemic.

Most of the thirteen grandchildren have worked in the hotels at one time or another, but over the years, as they have all grown up, it has become clear that the next generation have all chosen to follow different career paths.
Staff have been informed that this process has begun, and Graham + Sibbald Chartered Surveyor and Property Consultants have been appointed as agents for the sale. The aim is to pass on this much-loved family business to the best possible future custodians.
