Chartered Surveyors Aim for Net Zero

Graham + Sibbald are delighted to announce the recent hires of Tom Meney and Pamela Mathieson who will lead Graham + Sibbald’s new Carbon + Sustainability department.

The new department will offer a wide range of energy efficiency, environmental and compliance services aiming to help both new and existing clients manage and adapt to climate change risk and thrive in an upcoming ‘Net Zero’ economy. From planning and technical services advice to analysis of your carbon emissions and usage, we will work with you to determine realistic and cost-effective solutions.

Tom Meney joins as Head of Carbon + Sustainability and will lead the development of this new service provision within Graham + Sibbald. With a background in engineering, procurement and environmental management consultancy, Tom brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the team.

Having worked in the Environmental sector for the last 20 years, he has been owner and Managing Director of Carbonzone Ltd, a professional environmental and business consultancy practice with a wide range of clients including SMEs, large enterprises, public sector and Government agencies. His consultancy work involved environmental compliance and audit, energy efficiency assessment and carbon accounting, risk management and management systems implementation.

Tom commented, “I am excited to be joining Graham + Sibbald and leading the newly formed team as the UK embraces the need for climate change action having announced its commitment to Net Zero by 2050.  There is a huge amount of positive but rapid change that needs to take place in that time, starting now, and we will be well prepared to help our existing and new clients manage that change. The benefit of having so many specialist resources all under one roof is that it will allow us to provide a comprehensive, expert service to our clients, meeting their specific needs and working through the climate challenges.”

In 2019, the UK Government agreed to legally binding international targets to reach Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050, a target which needs significant and sustained action to be achieved.

Pamela Mathieson joins the business as an Associate within the Carbon + Sustainability department. Pamela joined Carbonzone after studying a degree at the University of Glasgow. After several years of experience in Compliance Management and Environment consulting has gone on to Post Graduate studies in Environment Management leading to an MSc in the discipline.

More recently, she has worked as an Environmental Sustainability Adviser and has extensive experience in the provision of support and advice related to environmental and energy management systems, carbon footprinting and the delivery of net zero carbon strategies.

Pamela said, “The Carbon + Sustainability team at Graham + Sibbald is sure to be a big hit with clients as everyone is becoming more aware of their environmental impact both individually as well as from a business perspective. I’m delighted to be a part of the newly formed team and look forward to establishing our service offering, meeting new clients and helping to grow and develop the team.”

In addition to Tom and Pamela, the new Carbon + Sustainability department will feature a number of existing Graham + Sibbald team members from across a variety of key services, including Petroleum + Roadside, Architectural services, Building Surveying, Planning and more, all feeding in to provide a high-quality service offering that stands out from our competitors.

Graham + Sibbald Managing Partner, Calum Campbell, said, “We are ever conscious of our carbon footprint and have implemented a number of environmentally friendly processes within the business in recent years. Our new Carbon + Sustainability department is a big step in the right direction for both us and our clients, as we look provide a friendly service alongside national reach and local expertise. We understand how complex this specialist sector can be and are able to provide the necessary support and advice to achieve long-term results. I’m pleased to welcome both Tom and Pamela and very much look forward to establishing this new department over the coming months and years.”

Graham + Sibbald has over 200 employees and 20 partners working across its 17 UK offices in Scotland and England.
