GRAHAM + SIBBALD is has grown considerably since its early days - from a single Office in Dundee, to a Network of 14 Offices across the UK. From two founding Partners and a secretary, the Firm now has 26 Partners; 25 Associates; 2 Consultants; 1 Department Head; 70 professional staff; total complement of some 250.
In February 1959, Sandy Graham, formerly of the District Valuer's Department, went into partnership with Greig Sibbald, principal of John G. Sibbald & Son Property Agents, to establish what was then the only solely Valuation-based practice in the City.
The Firm's original offices were at 11 South Union Street, opposite Dundee West railway station - a site which has since been covered by the City's inner ring road. In 1964, Graham & Sibbald moved to 30 Whitehall Street. By that time, the Firm had expanded in terms of client base and with the opening of offices in Kirkcaldy, Stirling and Glasgow. After 10 years at Whitehall Street, pressures of growth again forced a move, and factors such as accessibility and parking, led to a choice of location at Dudhope Street where quality office accommodation was created in an Edwardian property named 'Waverley House'.
Graham + Sibbald continued to grow with further Offices across Scotland being opened in Paisley and Inverness. This expansion in turn demanded increased central facilities for administration, and a decision was taken to split these from the Firm's Dundee professional practice Office. Consequently, the enlarged administration function moved to Offices close by in Bell Street, in 1981.
Further expansion including offices in Falkirk and Edinburgh rendered Dudhope Street inadequate, and the search was on again for suitable larger premises for yet another relocation. In 1987 the former Amalgamated Engineering Union HQ in Marketgait was purchased.
A substantial capital investment programme was undertaken to refurbish this major 'landmark' Building, renamed 'Waverley House', up to standard and the Dundee Office including the Firm's administrative sections remain at this address today.
Many of the other earlier Offices have also since moved to larger premises notably Glasgow, Edinburgh which is now in Manor Place next door to the HQ of The Royal Institution Of Chartered Surveyors in Scotland, and also Aberdeen which originally opened in 1989.
In the following years offices have been established in Perth, Hamilton, Dunfermline and Kilmarnock.
The Dundee office recently moved to 1 Greenmarket, which is almost to the location where Graham + Sibbald was founded by Sandy Graham and the late Greig Sibbald back in 1959 on South Union Street.
Graham + Sibbald have recently set foot in England where the head office is located in Weybridge to serve the English market.
Shortly after Graham & Sibbald opened the very first Office in Dundee, two Apprentices were appointed to assist the two founding Partners with their increasing workload. One of those Apprentices, Jim Merry, subsequently became the Firm's Senior Partner nearly 30 years later in 1989 retiring in 2004 to become a Consultant.
James Robb based in Inverness is the Senior Partner. Ian Gillies, Managing Partner and John Sharp Partnership’s Secretary are based in Glasgow.
