Planning Fees Increase 1st June 2017

Planning Fees Increase 1st June 2017

The Scottish Government has announced that planning fees for major scale applications will increase from the 1st June 2017.

This will see maximum planning application fees increase from £20,050 to £125,000.  Maximum fees for applications for planning permission in principle will also increase from £10,028 to £62,500.

Kerri McGuire, Head of Planning at Graham + Sibbald said;

“There is general industry support for increasing planning application fees, if the additional fees are used to improve the planning service.  There is no commitment from the Scottish Government that the new fee levels will be utilised to improve planning performance.

This announcement sees a five fold increase in current fee levels and at a time that a number of Local Authorities are reducing their pre-application and duty officer services. The consultation on the increase in planning fees gave no indication that the fees would be increased so quickly and in advance of the implementation of the wider planning reforms.”
