Hi Everyone,

I’m not long back from the World Cup in Guadalajara Mexico. This was my first World Cup with the GB ‘A’ team. Our three man team for the Team Sprint event comprised of 2 Olympic Champions, Philip Hines and Jason Kenny. You can watch the action in a short video from 1:50 onwards:

Hopefully the video should have given you a fair idea of how the team sprint works. However to clarify, each team consists of 3 members, each with a specific role. The inside man, Philip in this case was Man 1, our starter. Jason was Man 2 and I was Man 3, sometimes referred to as the anchor lap as Man 3 stops the clock on the team. This is a position I have been targeting for a number of years. I was very grateful to be given a chance with the ‘A’ team and I could not be happier that it all came together as from the video, you will notice WE WON!

GB’s first victory in the team sprint event at a World Cup for four years, or twelve World Cups! The next world Cup is in London 5th-7th of December, hopefully the home advantage will shine through versus the three flights required to make it to Mexico.

The next competition I will be competing in is a little closer (fortunately) to home with the Manchester Revolution on the 22nd of November. The caliber of riders attending is excellent and it gives me another chance to show what I can do in the other sprint events before GB select their team for London. The Revolution is also very popular with spectator racing and entertainment and almost always sells out! Thus, as well as being a serious event it’s also one of the more fun events on the calendar.

Right now I’m trying to recover from the jet lag and a bit of a nasty cough I picked up on the travel back. Hopefully I can try getting back on the bike today for a wee spin…fingers crossed.

I’ll be sure to update you on how the next few events go!
