Rising Star Callum Skinner took Gold in the 1km time trial at the European Track Championships in Guadeloupe this month (October). The Graham + Sibbald sponsorship was announced on 1 October and the cash support is assisting Callum with his major expenses travelling to his international competitions this year.

Callum clocked up a time of 1:02.399 to win the Gold, while Germany’s Joachim Eilers and Frenchman Quentin Lafargue finished second and third respectively – with Britain’s Matt Crampton in 10th place.

Callum Skinner is the second athlete to be sponsored by Graham + Sibbald under the Rising Star scheme and is having a great year so far as he has Rio in his sights.  The 22 year old Scot also picked up four wins recently at the British National Track Championships in the Kilo, Keirin, Sprint and Team Sprint.

Caribbean island Guadeloupe is a French Colony and the European Championships are the first chance to score Olympic qualification points for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Les McAndrew, Managing Partner commented: “All the Graham + Sibbald staff are thrilled with Callums recent results and his dedication for his sport is nothing short of inspirational. We are all following his progress carefully and are confident that he will have a brilliant year as our Rising Star.”

Callum also commented:”I’d like to say how helpful the support from Graham +Sibbald is to me. First of all it’s great to know that everyone from the firm is behind me at major competitions. And it is with this support that I am now able to do more racing abroad. Despite the UK being a cycling super power, our domestic racing scene does not provide everything I need to develop. Therefore it’s great to have the funding to travel abroad and gain more vital race experience.”
