Inverness Attracts Graduates

Young Professionals Attracted to Highland Office

Graham + Sibbald’s Inverness office has made two graduate appointments this summer to add to an ever growing team in the Highlands.  The firm also announced a new Associate Partner, James Burns.

James Burns (38) rejoined Graham +Sibbald in 2010.  Educated at Napier University, Edinburgh he joined the Inverness office as a graduate surveyor in 2001 and became RICS qualified in 2003.  James is originally from the Black Isle and has in excess of 10 years’ experience in the Highland property market.

James commented: “The Highland residential housing market has been strong recently, helped by the increased availability of loan finance and the relatively low cost of mortgages given the historically low interest rates.  This has resulted in increased market activity and sales volumes in the Highland market.  We are well placed to build on the existing success of G+S Inverness and we will be looking to further develop the residential business going forward.”

Kenny McKenzie (21) recently graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University with a first class honours degree in Property Management and Valuation.  He had worked with the company for 12 months in a work experience programme.  “The variety of experience I gained on my placement period allowed me to understand the surveying profession as a whole with each day being very different to the last.  I am looking forward to further progressing my career and increasing my knowledge of the ever changing commercial property market.”

Lucy Fraser (20) has joined the firm on the work experience scheme as a trainee building surveyor whilst working towards her degree.  She is currently studying towards a BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.  “I am working here over the summer to gain hands-on experience of what a qualified building surveyor could be doing on a daily basis.

“I enjoy the variety of working within the office and also being out on site, no two days are ever the same.  Working with G+S is very worthwhile because of the great variety of work that the company covers and the practical experience offered.”

Iain Leighton, Senior Partner, Graham + Sibbald, is based in Inverness and comments: “Commercial and residential transactions are starting to increase in and around Inverness and our core team of 16 experienced surveyors are also creating new opportunities with clients.  It has always been a policy of Graham + Sibbald to nurture and develop young people in the industry and Kenny and Lucy are excellent examples of this policy in action.”
